Troubleshooting Guide

Language and Region

When you choose a language, Discoverer uses it to display menu commands, text in dialogs, and messages. The languages shown with an asterisk display English; however, the regional settings still take effect.

Discoverer uses the language and region together to determine what type of date fomat to use, how to sort data, and what currency symbol to use. For example, if you choose French and France, Discoverer displays the date in day-month-year format and displays currency with F, for French Francs.

JavaScript

Discoverer requires a Web browser that supports JavaScript 1.2. This includes Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x and higher. If your Web browser does not support JavaScript, the Discoverer Web pages will not function, and Discoverer will not load.

Using Internet Explorer browser with Discoverer

Discoverer for Macintosh requires that you use Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x or later and Mac OS Runtime for Java (MRJ). If you installed MRJ, and Discoverer does not work properly, configure MRJ.

To install/upgrade your version of Internet Explorer:

  1. Go to the Microsoft web site at http://www.microsoft.com.
  2. On the Microsoft web site, search for a Downloads link.
  3. Download the latest version of Internet Explorer for Macintosh.
  4. Follow Microsoft's on-screen installation instructions.
  5. When you finish installing Internet Explorer, launch the new version and return to the Discoverer home page.

Note: If you have trouble downloading or installing Internet Explorer, contact your Discoverer administrator.

To install/configure MRJ:

  1. Go to the Apple web site at http://www.apple.com.
  2. On the Apple web site, search for Java.
  3. Download the latest version of MRJ Installer.
  4. Follow Apple's online installation instructions.
  5. When you finish installing MRJ, relaunch Internet Explorer and return to the Discoverer home page.
